Darren was able to arrange a TDY to Aviano AFB in Italy around the first week in August (this is what I get for not keeping current on my blog - now I can't remember any dates!). I got to got spend Sat - Tues with him. The best part was the kids were looked after by a friend in Germany.
Typical waterway between houses ... I guess if you laundry falls into a passing gondola you're out of luck ...
I got to Italy on Saturday around noon and we headed straight to Venice. It was a beautiful day, and lots of fun strolling through the shops, eating Gelato, and watching the gondalas.
Sunday we went to the beach --B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L .... and one of my favorite ways to relax -- nothing better than laying in the sun and listening to the waves ...

Bridge of Sighs .... ahhh... to be back in Italy .... (sigh) ...

Venetian glass owls (for Spencer) and a turtle (for Marie) ...
Monday was a quick trip to Nove. A town about an hour or so from the air base. It is where all the pottery sold in the U.S. comes from. As we were in one shop, they were boxing stuff up to be sent to Williams Sonoma, Tiffany's, etc. I got some fun pieces of pottery there! It was fun shopping with my hubby -- to bad that he had to go back to work! We only got a half day shopping ...

Gotta love this pumpkin bowl!! It looks great in my kitchen with candy corn and other treats in it ...

One can never have too many trivets ... especially if the new addition is a cool rooster mosaic ...

Loved this leaf bowl ... it looks even better on my kitchen table!

Must have a mosaic Rooster platter .... blends really well in my cupboard of Polish pottery ...

HAD to have the turkey platter! Who could resist? (the corner got broken in shipping, but I was able to super glue it -- can't wait to hang it for Thanksgiving!)

Can't go to Italy without getting something for Olive oil! ... an a bowl for olives, and another one for mixing olive oil, balsamic vinegar and spices ....yummm

Not only is it a cool Rooster pitcher, it has a cool story that goes with it!

I thought Marie would enjoy this turtle ... if only I was rich and could buy it for her ...

Did you know there is a Hard Rock Cafe in Venice ... I'm finding they are pretty much everywhere... We've eaten at the one in Paris and Rome (mostly for the kids to have some American food with free re-fills on drinks), but they are starting to all look the same ...

Typical gondalier ...

Crazy American couple ...
Our flight was leaving late in the afternoon on Tuesday. So, we spent half the day at the beach. =) Then wandered back to the airport ... enjoying more italian pizza and gelato on the way ... yes, it was a fabulous trip ... I love Italy!!
