A weekend project ...

Last weekend (Aug. 20-23) was the opening of the Archery Deer hunt ... So, the boys all loaded up and headed for J's house. Shelby & I headed to Elk Ridge to crash for the weekend, while I worked on a project at Bry & Ann-Marie's house .... They have a cute playroom in the basement for the girls, and they asked if I would paint some nursery rhymes on the walls ... So much fun!! So ... here are some of the work in progress ....
Humpty's nose is a little low ... oh, well ...
They already had the rock "wall" on the wall -- matches the cute built in play house (not pictured, except the very tip of the shingled roof top below)
After Black sheep had his wool, it was empty in the corner, so I added a tree ...
I got Humpty, Black Sheep, and the Hickory clock done on Saturday. I had started the tree & sketched Hey Diddle diddle before I left... When I came back Sunday afternoon (4:00ish), I had just started to work and the power went off for an hour. So, I got to hold Lanie while she napped. Then the power came back ... for a couple of minutes! ugh! I had wet paint and brushes! So, we got a large flashlight, and I finished the tree by flashlight ...
The dish & spoon, cat & fiddle, and little dog laughing were all done on Monday ... As was the grass throughout the room ....
Tori was so cute while I was working ... She would come in a say, "egg!" or "dog!" Then when the dog was dry and I was working on the cat and dishes, she would "hold" the dog's hands and dance with him ... too cute! I'm glad she loves it!!
I went back and added words to the nursery rhymes in vinyl ... didn't get pictures with the words ...
The clock was done on a wall that we could drill and then add the clock mechanism from behind ... so, it's a "real" clock ...
Ann-Marie also added a water spout made from pvc pipe next to the play house, complete with a plastic itsy bitsy spider climbing up ....
I love how the room turned out! After they decide where they are building some play shelves, I may add more around the shelves ...

A few of my favorite things ...

July 30, 2010 ... the arrival of our things from Germany!! After Spike and the rest of the movers left (yes, Spike was the real name of the mohawked, heavily tattoed, pierced crew leader), we had LOTS of work to do ...
Darren started by unpacking boxes dumped in the kitchen ... each time he came across a lantern, he added it to his little lantern army down the hall ... sadly, these are not all my lanterns -- there were more downstairs! :) I love my lanterns ...
The last room for me to put together was my office/craft room. Partly because I always start with the kitchen, then bedrooms, then living areas, saving the most exciting for last. ;) I also had to wait for the internet to be set up before I could move my desk in place and load it with all it's stuff. I was very excited that one of my new wardrobes from Germany was able to fit in my office!
We sold our old bed (14 years old, no head/footboard) while in Germany, so we "had" to buy a bed when we arrived. I LOVE my new bed!! I love the mattress, I love that I have a headboard/footboard (without it really being in my way - I tend to hang my feet out the end of the bed), and I love that it is a king size ... although in the king size bedroom, you would never know!
I spent a good portion of today making this new FHE board ... LOVE it!
My other new wardrobe from Germany is in the main living room. I love the look of the two antique ladders by it ... I love my living room with new leather couches from Belgium and lots of my lanterns around the room ...
I love the veiw from the kitchen ... This is looking down into the entryway sitting room. This happens to be Pepper's favorite place. She is usually found either sleeping on the couch as she is here, or on the back of the couch sleeping, or gaurding the house by looking out the windows ...
I love my "wine" cupboard from European Country Living. I love how all my polish pottery looks inside, but is still easy to get to!
I love having my black hutch loaded with my china. I missed my dishes ... It's so fun to have this little nook off the kitchen...
I love the cupboard Kurt Nafzinger made for us! It fits all my antique dishes and is fun to have my milk bottles on... I love where the kitchen scale hangs!
I love having space above kitchen cupboards to display things on!
My antique canisters fit about the stove ... then the ceiling angels up -- giving me more room for some bigger stuff ....
I LOVE my rooster vane!! I love that it went WAY on sale right before I left Germany!! I ended up paying about 1/3 what it was originally listed as!! Love that!
I love my antique dough table in my kitchen!! It'a fun to have it there as an "island"... Thanks Heidi! Most of all ... I LOVE having my house together!!
