Hospital stay

Shelby checked into the Bruderhaus on Friday June 27th, at 7am. She got in her room, in her lovely hospital gown, got her leg shaved and maked with a black permanent marker, and then around 11am left for surgery ... She got back to the room around 2:30, awake, but a little loopy ... She was very happy to have her brothers come visit her that night, and that her dad brought her a snack. Dinner in the hospital is 2 pieces of bread and some butter. We thought she was only spending one night, but, when the doctor came in that night, he said, "tomorrow the drain will come out, and if the wound is healing well, she could go home Sunday". So, we settled in for an extra day at the hospital. She had her portable DVD player, we both had books, and some card games. The drain being taken out is definitely the WORST part (I even remember that from my knee surgery almost 20 years ago!) ~ she was not happy for quite a while afterwards ... On Sunday, a doctor came and looked at the stitches and said, "she will need a new cast tomorrow before she leaves ... who told you she was going home today? I know nothing of that ..." Soooo... another night in the hospital ... lots of walking up and down stairs with the crutches and through the halls. On Monday, Spencer came with me to check Shelby out (Devin was at EFY in Denmark). We were told she would be checked out by 11 or 12 ... When the doctor came at 3:30, he did not like the cast - sooo, back downstairs, another cast, up again to check out, and leaving by 5:00pm ... Very long day ... but! we are home!! Shelby goes to have stitches out tomorrow and then another hard cast put on for 6 weeks ...
